Toronto emergency services responded to multiple collisions on Tuesday morning as winter weather caused black ice and slippery roads. The Don Valley Parkway (DVP) southbound was closed at Don Mills Road and the Bayview-Bloor ramps following a six-vehicle crash around 5:27 a.m., though it has since reopened.

One person sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Another three-vehicle collision occurred on the Gardiner Expressway East at York Street, with no injuries reported.

Other accidents were reported at Lake Shore Boulevard W. and Bay Street, as well as at Sheppard Avenue W. and Bathurst Street in North York. Most incidents involved property damage and no injuries, according to Toronto police.

Staff Sgt. Paul Lentsch noted that many drivers likely weren’t prepared for slippery conditions at this time of year, with some potentially having removed their winter tires. Police advised motorists to slow down and adjust their driving for the weather.

Paramedics responded to six collisions across the city, mostly fender-benders with no life-threatening injuries. Ontario Provincial Police also reported multiple crashes in the Greater Toronto Area, but no serious injuries. The TTC warned of delays on all streetcar and bus routes due to the weather.

Environment Canada issued a winter weather advisory, forecasting up to 4 cm of snow and icy surfaces. Although the advisory has been lifted, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt urged drivers to remain cautious, as roads could still be wet and icy.
