On Tuesday afternoon, a head-on collision in Quinte West, near CFB Trenton, resulted in the fatalities of a man and his young passenger, as reported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The OPP confirmed that their Quinte West detachment officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident involving a car and a pickup truck on Old Highway 2, close to Quinte View Drive, at around 3:45 p.m.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old from Stirling, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a five-year-old passenger later died in a hospital, according to an update from the police. The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to a hospital for medical attention. In the aftermath of the crash, Old Highway 2 was closed between RCAF and Whites roads for investigative purposes. The OPP later reported that the road was reopened shortly after 10 p.m.
The incident occurred near the eastern edge of the base, approximately four kilometers east of the Trent River and 13 kilometers west of downtown Belleville.
