A freezing drizzle advisory has been issued for Toronto, with Ontario Provincial Police warning of hazardous road conditions in the GTA. Freezing drizzle mixed with light snow is expected to cause icy and slippery surfaces, particularly on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.

Environment Canada urged caution, as freezing drizzle can form thin, hard-to-detect ice layers. The weather has led to school bus cancellations, and some schools, like those in Hamilton, are closed.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt reported numerous crashes due to drivers failing to adjust to the weather, with slippery roads leading to reduced visibility and slushy conditions. He advised drivers to stay in their vehicles if involved in a collision and urged those who must drive to ensure their vehicles are properly prepared, with enough fuel and windshield wiper fluid.

The freezing drizzle may persist into the afternoon, creating hazardous conditions for the evening commute. However, meteorologist Bill Coulter expects conditions to improve later today, with better road conditions expected by Friday. A new weather system bringing snow is expected on Saturday.
