The investigation into a dog involved in a fatal incident in Brantford is ongoing, with authorities expressing concern that the animal may have been relocated outside the city limits. On Monday, city officials issued a request for information following the tragic death of a cherished 16-year-old Chihuahua named Charlie, who was attacked by an unidentified dog while on a walk with one of his owners last Friday.
Since the incident, the city’s bylaw department has received a multitude of tips. They have focused their search on a neighborhood close to the site of the attack, where witnesses reported seeing the dog frequently. However, it has not been sighted since the incident. Dave Wiedrick, the Director of Bylaw Compliance and Security in Brantford, expressed concern in an email, stating, “At this time, there are no charges pending for her inability control the leashed dog. We are asking her to come forward to assist in this investigation so that we can locate the dog before another attack occurs.”
Investigators have reviewed the city’s records of licensed dogs but found no leads, suggesting that the dog may not be registered. Wiedrick also indicated that the woman who was walking the dog is not believed to be its owner. At this time, she is not facing any charges related to the failure to manage the leashed dog, but is urged to come forward and support this investigation to help prevent similar incidents.
