Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a major crash involving two tractor-trailers on Highway 401, west of Kingston. Emergency crews were called to the scene after reports of a serious accident in the eastbound lanes near County Road 6 in Odessa, shortly before 6 a.m. ET on January 31.
An image of the scene was shared by the OPP on X, showing smoke rising from a damaged truck. While only minor injuries have been reported, it is still unclear if anyone was hospitalized for further care. To assist with debris removal, the OPP has closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between County Road 6 and Gardiners Road.
By 9 a.m. ET, the OPP announced a closure of one westbound lane as well to help ease traffic delays in the eastbound lanes. The cause of the fiery crash is still under investigation, and it remains unknown if charges will be laid. Anyone with information, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is urged to contact the OPP.
