A driver is dead after a BMW crashed into a hydro pole and caught fire early Friday morning on Eglinton Avenue East, near Brimley Road, leading to a major road closure.
Toronto police say the incident happened shortly after midnight. The BMW was traveling westbound when it allegedly ran two red lights, clipped a vehicle stopped at an intersection, lost control, and slammed into a hydro pole. The vehicle then burst into flames with the driver still inside. Witnesses reported the car was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash.
Eglinton Avenue East remains closed between Brimley Road and Falmouth Avenue as the investigation continues. Brimley Road has since reopened. Anyone with information is urged to contact Toronto Police at 416-808-1900.
