A fatal crash on Highway 401 in Scarborough on Monday has left one person dead and two others injured, including a toddler. Ontario Provincial Police responded to the collision in the westbound collectors lanes near Meadowvale Road shortly after 10 a.m. The vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled into a ditch, killing the driver at the scene.
Two passengers, a 78-year-old and a two-year-old, were taken to a trauma center. Their injuries have since been downgraded to minor. OPP’s collision reconstruction team is investigating the cause of the crash, considering factors like traffic conditions, weather, and the vehicle’s mechanical condition.
As of 2:45 p.m., the highway remained closed. Police are urging anyone with dash cam footage or information to contact them.
