A fiery crash on eastbound Ellesmere Road near the intersection of Ellesmere and Markham roads has reduced traffic to a single lane. Toronto police were called at 2:19 p.m. after a driver crashed into a tree, causing their vehicle to catch fire.
The driver, the only person in the car, managed to escape and was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. While the westbound lanes have reopened, both directions of Ellesmere Road remain closed between Markham and Scarborough Golf roads. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes.
