Students at Fanshawe College are raising safety concerns following a single-car crash near the campus on Tuesday evening. The crash, which occurred just after 8:30 p.m., knocked down a fence and sent a concrete post flying, narrowly missing students waiting for buses.
JaiRaj Bhambota, a witness, described seeing a black car speeding towards the fence before hearing a loud bang. He rushed to help the driver, who had minor injuries, including a cut on his head. The driver was treated at the hospital and released, with no other injuries reported.
Despite this, students are shocked that no one else was hurt and are urging for better safety measures. Some suggest installing stronger barriers along Oxford Street in front of the bus shelters, such as a concrete wall. However, others are skeptical, noting that such measures might not protect pedestrians, especially smokers along the sidewalk.
Instead, some students are calling for increased speed enforcement on the street. The police investigation into the crash is ongoing, but no details on the cause or potential charges have been released.
