A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 417 in Ottawa’s east end early Tuesday morning after his car ended up in the center median. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene near Anderson Road just before 4:30 a.m.

Police say the driver exited their vehicle and attempted to cross the highway, where they were hit by another eastbound vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 417 were closed for over five hours for investigation and reopened just before 9 a.m. OPP is asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them. They also remind the public to remain in their vehicle after a collision and avoid walking on the highway.
