A Toronto police officer was seriously injured in a crash on the Don Valley Parkway early Saturday morning. The collision, involving the officer’s vehicle and another car, occurred around 6:40 a.m. near Bayview Avenue and Bloor Street. The officer was rear-ended while stopped with emergency lights on and sustained serious injuries, while the other driver also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Both were taken to the hospital. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw later expressed relief that the officer would be discharged that same day, calling it “lucky” given the circumstances. After a brief closure, the DVP’s northbound lanes have reopened, but it’s unclear if the other driver will face charges.
