A woman in her 50s has died after being struck by a dump truck in Mississauga on Thursday afternoon. Peel police indicated that they responded to the incident at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Mills Parkway around 1:15 p.m.
Constable Tyler Bell-Morena stated that the woman was in the crosswalk heading east when she was hit by a northbound dump truck. She suffered critical injuries and was taken to a trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the truck remained at the scene.
Bell-Morena remarked that the intersection is extensive, with multiple lanes in each direction, and while it is not uncommon for collisions to occur, pedestrian incidents are less frequent. The Major Collision Bureau is investigating the matter, employing aerial support to assist in reconstructing the events that led to the collision.
