According to Toronto police, a woman who was extracted from a vehicle that had become submerged in Ashbridges Bay on Sunday night has succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Emergency services were alerted to the situation at Ashbridges Bay Park Road, situated south of Lake Shore Boulevard East and Lower Coxwell Avenue, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Reports indicated a vehicle was submerged in the water.

Officers from the 55 Division responded to the scene within minutes. Toronto Fire had earlier told CP24 that a man was discovered on the roof of the vehicle when emergency responders arrived. In a social media video, Constable Viktor Sarudi confirmed that the male driver had exited the vehicle, while a female passenger remained trapped inside. Officers entered the freezing water in an attempt to rescue the passenger.

Both individuals were subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention, but police later confirmed that the female passenger passed away on Monday morning. Four officers who responded to the incident were also taken to the hospital due to exposure to harsh weather conditions. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing, and police are urging any witnesses to come forward.
