SIMMY YU FOUNDER / LAWYER (JD, LL.M)
Prior to founding Edge Injury Law, Simmy spent the past 11 years as a lawyer at a Bay Street law firm practicing exclusively Personal Injury Law. She has negotiated tens of millions of dollars in settlements for her clients and has been involved in notable precedent-setting legal cases before both courts and tribunals.
Outside of her work, she was a longstanding member of the Board of Directors for the Community Legal Clinic of York Region, the Vice-Chair of the Women’s Caucus of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association from 2019-2020 and was a member of the Editorial Board of The Litigator Magazine from 2018-2024. She also holds a ARCT in Piano Performance.
She holds Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), Juris Doctor (JD), Post-Graduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) and Master of Laws (LL.M) degrees. She also holds a Certificate in Negotiation from Harvard Law School, a Certificate in Professional Mediation from Cornell University and a Certificate in Adjudication from Osgoode Hall Law School.

PRECEDENT SETTING AT THE COURT OF APPEAL
We acted as counsel for Mackay v. Starbucks, a groundbreaking Ontario’s Occupiers’ Liability Act case which made businesses responsible for the winter maintenance of municipal sidewalks under certain circumstances.
DECISION FORCING AN INSURANCE COMPANY TO PAY COSTS ON TOP OF AN AWARD
We don’t stop at fighting for your damages and losses. In Pan v. Allstate, we demanded that the insurance company pay the legal costs of the Plaintiff for forcing her to proceed with litigation for compensation rightfully owed.
WINNING NON-EARNER BENEFITS FOR A MINOR
Non-earner benefits are notoriously difficult to obtain, but we succeeded in doing so in Brenner v. TD Insurance, a reported Accident Benefits decision from the Licence Appeal Tribunal.
